Important of Building Confidence in Children

In today’s world of parenting just raising a child with high academic scores is not enough. Soft skills, particularly public speaking and communication have become the core life skills that every child needs to have to be successful in their academic, social, personal and professional life.
Most adults wait until after college to try and develop these skills. But let’s face it. The best time to develop confidence and clear expressive communication is when your child begins to talk. Children are born with no inhibitions or opinions about themselves, and what they think of themselves comes directly from the comments and feedback they hear from their parents, family members and teachers. Therefore raising a child in a positive environment where building self-esteem and self-confidence should be the goal for every parent and household.
We can understand this importance if we understand the meaning of confidence. Confidence is the feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities and qualities.
What is the key word? It is “ones” and we as parents and educators are responsible for our children’s confidence. Everything we say and do will impact their “one self”. The key is to make sure your child feels that each of them is their own special “one” and that there is no other. Comparisons to other siblings, children or family members should be completely avoided. Awaken the inner genius in every ONE of your children and they will reap the benefits of success.

At Genius Kids Accelerated Learning Center, our focus is just this. Every child is a genius and we work to ensuring that every child knows they are that special ONE who can engage, participate and express in everything they do without fear.
